Customer Driven Solutions

Understanding client requirements and their specific products allows for personalized logistics with a particular emphasis on managing risk.

· Not all products require temperature control, so dry containers are available from Spring to Fall.
· Reefer containers are temperature controlled to maintain a constant temperature for whatever setting required.
This is what your bananas and avocados get shipped in, so why not your valuable products!
· All Winter shipping is exclusively in reefers which is faster than through Panama and avoids their heat which is 30 Grad year round.
It also ensures no goods are frozen in the unpredictable Canadian weather.
· Summer temperatures in Europe and Eastern Canada can be extreme. Avoid spoilage of your product with temperature controlled service.
· Options always available to have orders collected in temperature controlled trucks for full door-to-door refrigerated service with correlated insurance protection.
· Consider climate risks arising from unforeseen delays (e.g. strikes) which leave containers stranded for weeks and products exposed to shifting seasons.
·Sensors are placed in every reefer container shipped to monitor & assure that the internal temperature is consistent and no mechanical failures have occurred.

Ideal Shipping Conditions

Data taken from temperature sensors in actual dry and reefer containers shipping from Europe along the same timeframe.  Both containers took the route through Port of Montreal and on rail to Western Canada.  The reefer container left one week later than the dry container and both arrived at the same time.

The World Food Logistics Organization (WFLO) recommends the following:

“Ideally, all wines are stored in refrigerated warehouses and shipped in refrigerated containers/trucks with the temperature exposure continuously logged to assure that the refrigeration system has indeed been working.”

Storage and shipping temperatures are recommended by the WFLO as follows:

Data taken from temperature sensors in actual dry container shipped from Europe to Western Canada via Port of Montreal.  One sensor was placed inside the insulating blanket which was covering one of the pallets.   The other was placed outside the insulating blanket to measure the temperature within the container.

From this example, a few key observations can be made:

- Average temperature difference between the two situations is 1.7 Grad (warmer or colder)

- Blankets provides some additional protection against big swings in temperature

- However, these benefits are minimal especially if the container is exposed to high or low temperatures and over time the temperture under the blanket reaches the same temperature as the container itself

Another very useful observation from this data set is that there can be a large difference between the highest and lowest temperatures that a dry container experiences.  When this container left Europe it was still hot with over 30 Grad  in September.  By the time it arrived in the Canadian praries in October, the temperatured reached a low of 3 Grad.
